Love The Skin You’re In

When my friend introduced me to Sherry Jibb there was an immediate connection.  She is bringing over a dozen beautiful women together who are experts in Self Love, Acceptance, Body Image, Confidence, Style & Fashion to share their tips and strategies to help us thrive and feel confident. I was very excited when she asked me to be one of them!  This is what I was inspired to share and will be discussing in our interview during the “Love The Skin You’re In” summit taking place February 24-28th.

When you cleanse, your body or your mind, you are able to slow down from the distractions around you and truly LISTEN and hear the messages of what you truly are in need of.  Embodied movement is also a way to slow down and hear yourself and your cravings to go after what you really want.

My work with people is for them to have an ability to get into the sensual embodiment and cleansing from a place of curiosity and love & joy instead of a place of disgust and shame.  Often times we need support to get started w embodied movement if we are feeling shame, and oftentimes people are starting a cleanse from a place of not loving themselves and wanting to change but really what they need is a shift of perception.  We don’t want to separate ourselves from ourselves, we need to find a way back to our true SELVES, and cleansing, releasing the clutter, and using sensual movement as a vehicle to move our bodies authentically with our hearts and not our minds, are two components of finding ourselves back to self-love and appreciation.  This doesn’t happen through rejection.  Rejection of foods, of eating, of ways of being, or of not wanting to connect into our bodies b/c we are finding faults with ourselves.  It’s about embracing who we are and recognizing our true selves again.  Many of us look at these elements through a distorted lens of toxicity or judgment, but in reality, we need to embrace cleansing our bodies in order to cleanse our minds of these irrational beliefs, and then move our bodies freely with empowered self-love.

Slowing down enough in our movement and thorough cleansing, letting the body slow down and empty a bit, is how we can actually hear what our bodies are truly asking for and craving.  THEN when we are able to connect and drop in, we are able to move forward with clarity and true authenticity.

I have my own personal journey of years of cleansing and moving my body in different ways trying to find peace inside my own skin.  After years of distortion, self-abuse, and eating disorders I finally connected the dots and combined these two practices to rediscover wholeness again. This has been the inspiration to tie these two worlds together and birth PoleArity Palace, a studio for empowered movement and holistic suite.

My Covid Mugshot

So it happened…I got Covid, and it was on my BIRTHDAY no less!  There were plenty of reasons to feel sorry for myself: I was all alone and sick as a dog on a day meant for celebrating, and maybe worst of all was the new series of “Sex and the City:  And Just Like That,” which came out the same day was very sad. It sent me spiraling into a deeply depressed state!
I won’t say anything more about that as I wouldn’t want to spoil it for anyone… but “Really? Why!?”

After getting through the worst of the debilitating body aches and retched fever I was left with an intense, persistent cough and something else… a whole lot of time.

So guess what I did?  I dug deep and found the silver lining.  Back in October I invested in a 16 day Ayurvedic Fall cleanse.  Ayurveda, for those of you who aren’t familiar, is an ancient holistic healing system that focuses on the entire being, not just the diet.  Although I had studied Ayurveda for a few years back in my 20s when I got the cleanse instructions I was totally overwhelmed.

I did manage to get all of the “tools” needed to do the cleanse, but couldn’t swing doing all the prep that was required to make the fresh 3 meals a day(no leftovers allowed!) and all the drinks and teas and chews and stews that were also required from scratch each day.  But now I had oodles of time. The cleanse consists of meals that are warm, organic, and made of only whole foods. It was perfect to support my recovery!

It’s been nice to have the time and space to do this cleanse and I am grateful for the experience. However, it reminded me of how little time we have when we aren’t stuck in a lockdown.  It was also reinforced how important it is to carve out some quality time to take care of ourselves in between all the rushing around.  Don’t get me wrong, I love Ayurvedic medicine and will continue to incorporate many of the principles and rituals into my daily practice… but how do we balance both cleansing and living in a busy city outside of quarantine?

This was a reminder to me as to why I created my signature 3-Day Cleanse Experience in the first place!  It’s only a few short but effective days and it doesn’t require a lot of confusing timelines, protocols, or supplements. It is designed to create results but also be manageable, even if on a busy schedule.

I love hosting these mini cleanses because those who join get the result they are looking for… a true reset.  The three days create a new observation deck from which to move forward with greater clarity and lightness.
This new year ALL are welcome to join me in the next (and maybe last) FREE 3-day cleansing experience!  Don’t worry, I will still continue to host these experiences but they may evolve in the future, grow longer and they won’t always be free 🙂

The Butterfly Emerges

Three years ago today, on Halloween of 2018, SanaVita, Center for Holistic Cleansing closed its physical doors.  I’ll never forget the intensity of that day.  Our local corner bistro was also closing that day, a place that had become a “home away from home” for me and the kids to connect with friends in our community.  As a single mama of 2 kids who were excited to celebrate Halloween, there was a LOT on my plate.   I couldn’t just focus on closing up shop for the last time, because afterward, it was time to help the kids with costumes and chaperone trick or treating.  While there was a lot of joy flickering around me that evening, inside my heart, there was a heavy sadness as I said goodbye to SanaVita as I had known it.  This felt scary!

I had already been through a lot at that point, like divorce, which was hard, but not necessarily as scary to me because I KNEW what came next.  At that time I had accepted that I was going to be a single mother of 2 small kids and a solo business owner of SanaVita.  Would it be hard?  Yes, absolutely.  However, knowing clearly what was in front of me had made that transition easier.  The closing of SanaVita was different as I really wasn’t sure what was next.

So I kept going.  I continued on as a colon hydrotherapist for some time, until I was ready to put down the speculum.  I continued to see clients for biofeedback, coaching, and lymphatic drainage therapy out of my home office until the pandemic hit.  And then I continued to see clients and host group cleanses virtually.  However, it was during this time of virtual work that I started to get pulled in a different direction of clarity.

And then, finally, I stopped.  I stopped “doing” and I started “listening.”  What was I listening for?  Where to find my joy.  “After all that has happened, what do I want to be doing and where do I want to be doing it?” was the question that I started to ask myself.  I began to get truly curious about where exactly was my joy at THAT moment; not where should it be or what should I get back to, but what inspired me NOW, in the current day version of myself.  How did I want to live post-pandemic, with kids who are now teenagers, ready for more independence?
And then one day, I knew.

You see, I’ve always been interested in both the body and the emotional state of myself, those around me, and my environment.  But until I was forced to stop everything and stay home with my kids for a year, I just kept doing what I knew I was good at.  And then on the side, I did what I truly LOVED which was empowered movement, AKA dance.  And that’s when it became clear… why not merge my passions together?
And today on this anniversary, it is time to share with you what’s next.  SanaVita has served myself, my family, and my community well.  But all things must transform into their own next best version.  Often, it takes letting go of something old to let something new come to life.

So what better time, then on the anniversary of SanaVita’s physical closing to formally and publicly say goodbye to the old version of SanaVita and say hello to its new counterpart:
